Pivotal Moment
On April Fool’s Day 2023 I decided to be in public for the first time without my “hair” or scarf on. It was surreal! I have been challenged by various friends to go without a wig for some time now. I took a picture of me without my hair when the movie Black Panther came out a couple of years ago. That picture was taken in the privacy of my bathroom as my Wakanda Forever picture. I shared that picture on Facebook with my story about Alopecia Universalis was a thorn in my side for 5 decades.
I was on a beach in West Palm Beach Florida with my friend Shelly. I mentioned that I wanted to challenge myself and execute the idea of being in public without “my hair.” She encouraged me and I took some pictures with my hair on that I wore to the beach. Then I took my hair off right there on the beach with many onlookers. (Y’all remember I hate that 3 letter word W-I-G.) I proceeded taking more pictures with out it. It was invigorating! The air was blowing but was calming. I noticed a man taking pictures of me as well as I posed for the camera so Shelly could take the pictures.
God is good y’all! I didn’t feel threatened, fear, anxiety or any of the stress I used to fell exposing myself in that manner! I am healing. The sting is subsiding! I’m not embarrassed, and ashamed like I use to feel. I’m growing in my acceptance of who God made me to be! Now, I still don’t plan to be running around regularly with out my hair. I like how I look with hair so I will continue to rock my lacefronts. I just can’t find the good quality short styles that I love. I know they’re out there. I like the good quality with the elastic in the back that I’ve purchased from Luvme. Luvme make some short styles that I can purchase!
I’m blessed and praise God for all he’s doing for me! Join Striving to Attain Destiny Community. Look out for the Prayer Journal which will be available soon. My book is in the process of being written and will be forth coming. Please be on the lookout for that.
Take care! Peace & Joy!
